Many on our team are only 2 weeks out from getting on stage. No matter what happens that night, every single person is a success story in their own right. This is a critical time for many and it is now that a coach's guidance is most valuable. It astounds us the "kamikaze" tactics some utilize before a show. Probably the most senseless pre contest technique is allowing someone, who has eaten clean unprocessed food for weeks, to have a fast food burger or such the night before a show. In hopes of looking 2% better, these coaches risk stressing their client's digestive system and end up looking 10% worse with flatulence, abdominal distention, bloating, etc. Sometimes there are no problems but it's Russian roulette with all the hard work going into a show. Going in to a show, TheFITBOBYrx takes an scientifically based safe and effective approach. The following is our nutritional strategy starting two weeks out from a show for all of our out of state clients. 1) Support Liver function. The liver is an organ largely responsible for burning fat in that it enables the conversion of T4 to T3. These are thyroid hormones that control our metabolism. T4 is the less active form while T3 is the more active form. The liver also produces bile which allows fats to be broken down. Fat utilization is very important in maintaining sugar levels so we crave less and sustain energy longer. Bile also enables for consistent and complete bowel movements. It goes without saying that no one looks tight in the abdomen area while constipated. Last but certainly not least, the Liver is the chief organ of detoxification. That means that the liver is your first line of defense against toxins such as excess estrogen, hormones found in food, or all other substances that could cause the body to hold water. We support and enhance liver function by using herbs(such as Dandelion Root, Burdock Root, Schisandra, Rosemary and Milk Thistle) and certain food supplements(Kale, Brussels Sprouts, Beet root and beet leaf juice) that gently nudge the physiology. 2) Support Kidney Function. It's common to hear that going in to a show coaches and athletes alike rely on Dandelion Root as an alternative to prescription diuretics. Historically, herbalists DO NOT use dandelion root as a diuretic although it does contain some compounds that have a diuretic effect. Herbalist rely on the Dandelion Leaf to support kidney function and create a very strong diuretic effect. The beauty in this more natural approach is that dandelion leaf provides a considerable source of minerals such as potassium, creating a balance in electrolytes while flushing the body of excess subcutaneous water. This means an athlete can get on stage much drier with very little risk of cramping. We support kidney function and the production of urine with Dandelion Leaf Extracts. 3)Support Digestive Function. Digestion is a north to south process. Problems in the south originate in the north. Many times, the distention that occurs in the lower abdomen is caused by faulty breakdown of food in the stomach. When food is digested incompletely, it rots in our digestive tract causing inflammation among other things. Proteins putrefy, Carbohydrates ferment, and Fats become rancid. Often the original cause of this is stress which turns on the Sympathetic Nervous System into overdrive. With a heightened Sympathetic Nervous System, it is improbable that a person will be able to produce the adequate amounts of acid to start digestion in the stomach. As much as we think that digestive issues stem from too much acid, more stem from too little acid! We support complete food breakdown with Betaine Hydrochloride and enzymes. 4) Support the balanced function of the Autonomic Nervous System. The anticipation of a contest can be one of the most nerve taxing aspects of contest prep. Maintaining an emotional balance is key in limiting stress hormones such as cortisol that produce inflammation and water retention. In these times, the stress can stunt fat loss and cause an athlete with 100% compliance to appear worse as the show gets closer. Some even decide to pull out from the show because stress eventually leads to depression and it "stops being fun." We support the stoic arm of the autonomic nervous system with St John's Wart Extract.
